Overlooking the Donegal creek fed from Hoover Spring originating in the basement of the red brick farmhouse and the stone spring house on the neighboring farm, this secluded room offers a private entrance and expansive deck to enjoy the view of the creek and the woods.
Mr. Michael Hoover sold and an acre of land and water rights to the newly formed Pennsylvania Fish Commission in 1873 to construct the state’s first fish hatchery. The building 100 by 32-foot building was constructed 750 feet from the spring along Donegal creek containing 17 hatching troughs. Views of the Farmhouse and location of the fish hatchery can be seen from this room.
Strangely the first eggs to be hatched were California salmon eggs, not brook trout.
